Roger F. Ellmore is the Executive Director of the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake.  He assumed that position in December of 2003.  Prior to coming to the 4-H Center he served six years as Executive Director of Virginia’s Explore Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  He spent 16 years in hotel general management positions with Holiday Inns and Sheraton in the Richmond Virginia market.  He also served as the opening operations manager of the Valentine Riverside Museum, an interactive, state of the art museum located on the James River in Richmond, Va.
Roger is a native of Blacksburg Virginia, and earned a bachelors degree in history from the College of William and Mary.  Roger, his wife Leslie and their two children reside in the Roanoke Valley. 

Dr. Doug McAlister, Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships

Dr. McAlister retired as a Professor Emeritus for Outreach and International Affairs while serving as a member of the management team as Director of Program Development.  He served as Director of University Outreach Program Development, which included the development and delivery of technical assistance projects and research initiatives for communities, governmental agencies, businesses and industry, organizations, and individuals focusing on all aspects of community and economic development.
He is recognized domestically and internationally for his economic development leadership in industrial and tourism development. He has provided industrial leadership for the development of more than 60 industrial parks, and the location of over 250 industries. He designed and implemented the Virginia Institute for Economic Development, now in its 20th year. 
Dr. McAlister holds a B.S. in urban geography with a minor in rural planning and a M.A. in urban geography with a minor in rural planning from East Tennessee State University. He earned an Ed.D. in administration of park and leisure facilities with a minor in community development from the University of Georgia.

Jessie comes from a rich history of traditional and specialty camping. Originally from Galveston, TX, she has travelled across the US in her fields of experiential education and summer camping, including camps in Georgia, Indiana, and New Jersey. Jessie holds a degree in Visual and Performing Arts from the University of South Carolina and numerous certifications in her field from the American Red Cross, ERI, and ACA. Her passion is programming, and she looks forward to creating something special for each group that sets foot on property.
When she isn't at camp, Jessie enjoys the arts, traveling, and roller derby. She is a published playwright and an accomplished musician, and lives in the heart of Roanoke, VA with her husband Oliver and their cat, Sharkbait.

In her position as Conferencing Manager of the Skelton 4-H Center, Nina is responsible for working with user groups of the facilities.  This includes conferences, retreats, meetings, banquets, weddings, family events, and more.  Anyone who has booked an event with the Center can tell you that customer service has always been Nina’s top priority.  Her friendly demeanor and attention to detail will ensure that your group has an enjoyable experience at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center.   
Nina is a proud Hokie Alumni, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Virginia Tech in 2004, with a degree in History, minor in Political Science.  She lives in Union Hall, VA with her husband, Neil, three kids, Peyton, Caroline, and Natalie, and four dogs.  She enjoys reading, cooking, craft projects, going to the movies, and more than anything, spending time with her family.  Fun fact:  Nina and Neil were high school sweethearts, and their first date was at a church picnic at the Skelton 4-H Center (then known as the Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Center).  They later held their wedding reception in the Center’s Auditorium and enjoyed an extended celebration with family and friends who lodged on-site.  Her personal connection to the Center, along with her great personality and passion for helping others make her the perfect person to help you plan your next event!

Krae has an extensive 4-H background and has been actively involved with 4-H in the Roanoke Valley since 2000.  He worked as a Summer Program Staff Member and Outdoor Education Facilitator at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Center for three years prior to joining the United States Navy. He has a wide-ranging knowledge of 4-H, and environmental education programming. His passion is teaching and he is a strong advocate for the power of positive youth development through experiential learning.
In his free time, Krae enjoys hiking, reading, carpentry, fly fishing and cooking breakfast foods.

Rayna Wheeler, Outdoor Education Coordinator     rjwheeler@vt.edu     540-721-2759 ext. 253
Rayna has been a devout 4-H member since 1999. Her various roles include teen counselor with Virginia Beach 4-H, program staff at the Airfield 4-H Center, 4-H Extension Agent for the city of Portsmouth, adult volunteer, and Outdoor Education Coordinator at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Center.
Rayna graduated from Radford University in 2007 with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism concentrating in Outdoor Recreation. She is an active alumna of her sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau, and currently resides with her husband, Tim, and son, Dean, in Roanoke. She enjoys reading, cooking, watching college football (go Hokies!), and spending time with her family.

As the EAA at Skelton 4-H Center, Lauren does a little bit of everything from processing registrations to assisting in writing grants for our various programs. She first began working here as a temp (to sub in for another EAA who was on maternity leave) and has been here ever since! Lauren is a graduate of Georgia Baptist Medical Center's School of Histotechnology and worked as a histologic technician for 17 years before considering a career change to her current role. She has also been a Tupperware consultant for 25 years. 
Lauren and her husband and their two dogs live in Glade Hill, VA. She enjoys reading, traveling, working out, and spending time with her friends and family.

Terry moved to Smith Mountain Lake from Gloucester, VA in 1989 and owns a small farm nearby. After graduating from VWCC, Terry began her career in accounting at Hilltop Mulch and remained with the company until they closed in 2003, at which time she happily joined the Skelton 4-H Center staff. She processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other financial reporting for all of the Center's daily and yearly business. 
She is married with four daughters and four grandchildren. Terry genuinely loves accounting and her hobbies include camping, hiking, and spending time with her family - working at the 4-H Center allows her time to do it all!
